ColumbiaSoft released its latest version of the Document Locator document management software with new technology and significant changes in architecture that take advantage of the most current innovations in computing. Document Locator version 5.3 marks the ninth major release of the document management system since the company was founded in 1998.

ColumbiaSoft document management software works with Microsoft Windows 7.

"In addition to new features that improve ease-of-use, this release is a leap forward in terms of the underlying system architecture," said ColumbiaSoft product manager Scott Zieg. "As a Microsoft Front Runner and early-adopter, we’re committed to our tradition delivering document management solutions that take advantage of the most current technology," Zieg said, in the Sept. 14 announcement.

The release includes significant architectural changes that offer compatibility with the next generation Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as improved performance, scalability, and new functional improvements.

Document Locator version 5.3 is designed to work with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, expected to arrive on the market soon. Close integration with Microsoft operating systems and software, including Windows Explorer, Office applications, Outlook, and SharePoint, allow users to manage and share files from within familiar applications. This simplifies document management, making it easier for people to adopt document version control, records management, document imaging, email management and other document management practices in their day-to-day business, Zieg suggested.

A new framework for the optional WebTools browser interface uses .NET and Java scripting technology to improve web-based document management access in Document Locator version 5.3. The changes mean that people using the Web-browser will see faster performance and experience new design features that make the browser method similar to the Windows-based interface. For example, it’s now possible to import files by drag-and drop in the Web-browser using a new file import process. Other enhancements include a calendar-style date picker, and the ability to customize column views.

I mproved integrations : Integrations with AutoCAD and Brava! have been updated in version Document Locator 5.3. The new AutoCAD integration uses Autodesk’s RealDWG technology to speed the performance of CAD file management within the document management system. Integrations with Brava! Enterprise and Brava! Desktop have been updated to support the most recent releases of the mark-up applications.
