Density transmitter opens up closed-loop control

By Control Engineering Staff November 1, 1999

Solartron has launched a family of explosion-proof, digital insertion density transmitters They offer a range of density-derived values such as 7 API, % solids, and 7 Brix. Computed values are transmitted via a 4-20 mA output for controlling valves, mixers or blenders, while Modbus communications enable connection to SCADA and distributed control systems. The 7828 family includes versions suitable for corrosive or hygiene critical applications. Designed for liquids and slurries, the transmitters are self-contained and factory-calibrated. Functions are based on a vibrating tuning fork element to measure the density of liquids from light hydrocarbons to heavy slurries, maintaining an accuracy of 0.001 g/cc.
