Display conference: Hear from BMW, Universal Pictures
Executives from BMW, Universal Pictures, and AKT will provide the keynote addresses at the Society for Information Display’s (SID) upcoming annual event. Display Week 2007: The SID International Symposium, Seminar, and Exhibition, set for May 20-25, 2007 in Long Beach, CA, will gather together scientists, engineers, manufacturers, and users from the electronic-display industry to learn about technology and applications ranging from high-definition flat-panel displays using both emissive and liquid-crystal technology to the latest in OLED displays and large-area projection-display systems. The show and conference will include state-of-the-art information on the latest in image processing, systems software and display processor hardware, human factors and applied vision, and new applications such as multimedia and electronic cinema. More than 8,000 attendees are expected to visit the 550 exhibits and attend the technical programs.
Keynote speakers include Robert Isele, manager of driver information concepts, display technologies, for the BMW Group in Munich, Germany; In Doo Kang, general manager and corporate vice president of AKT’s Display Business Group (AKT is an applied materials company); and Jerry Pierce, Universal Pictures vice president of technology.
Isele, who also serves as the chairman of FPD technologies for the German Flat-Panel Display Forum (DFF), will focus on the growing market for automotive displays. Isele will confront the technical and commercial challenges facing suppliers, including temperature range, sunlight readability, and life cycles of 20 years. He will also discuss display technology as an enabler of design visions, with an emphasis on visions for the years 2012-2015.
Kang’s presentation is titled, ‘Are We There Yet: The End Game of Generations.’ Kang became head of AKT’s marketing and global sales in 2001, and has been corporate VP of the Display Group since 2005. Before joining AKT, Kang held marketing and engineering positions at Sun Microsystems and Fairchild Semiconductor. Universal Pictures’ Pierce will discuss changing expectations for home entertainment and the impact of the evolution of the movie-making and distribution process from film to digital. He’ll also address the impact this development is expected to have on new home-entertainment displays.
