DLP technology: Rear-projection displays shipped to specialty markets
SP Series in the Clarity line of rear-projection displays from Planar Systems uses Texas Instruments’ DLP (digital light processing) technology in a variety of configurations, including this video wall for a security application.
First shipments of rear-projection displays that use DLP (digital light processing) technology from Texas Instruments are on their way to specialty markets, Planar Systems Inc . announced last week. The SP Series in the Clarity line from Planar’s Control Room/Signage Business Unit meets a variety of visual information control needs. Although the products focus on government, security, transportation, and broadcast markets, the large variety of screen and lamp options enable a wide range of HMI and operator interface applications.
SP rear-projection DLP cubes come in open system or integrated system configurations in diagonal sizes of 50-in. (Model c50SP/c50SPi), 67-in. (Model c67SP/c67SPi), and wide screen 70-in. (Model c70SPw/c70SPwi). Each supports Planar’s SiFi (set it and forget it) technology that automates the continuous operation of the cubes at peak performance.
SP series, says Planar, is positioned in the control room market to provide display systems for corporate and government applications. The c50SP and c67SP offer 4:3 aspect ratio and SXGA+ (1400×1050) resolution, while the c70SPw delivers wide screen 16:9 aspect ratio and full HD (1920×1080) resolution. Color balance and redundant lamp systems are supported in all units to reduce the time and expertise required to maintain a functioning and balanced video wall of multiple rear projection cubes.
With SiFi auto color balance, each SP cube simultaneously measures the brightness and color of the actual light directed at the screen. Information is collected and compared, and then the optimal setting is directed to each cube, automatically creating a rebalanced wall. Action takes about 30 s, depending on wall size and can be initiated as scheduled, on command, or based on an event.
SP displays are said to have technical and physical properties designed for reliability in restricted spaces. Front and rear access and modular design ensure quick installation and maintenance. Electro-mechanical image alignment technology with IR remote control and serial link control features to promote image set-up.
