Eaton buys Ultronics and its electro-hydraulic valve technology

Cleveland, OH—Eaton Corp. has reached an agreement to buy Ultronics Ltd. (Cheltenham, U.K.) and its advanced electro-hydraulic valve system technology.

Cleveland, OH— Eaton Corp. has reached an agreement to buy Ultronics Ltd. (Cheltenham, U.K.) and its advanced electro-hydraulic valve system technology. The acquisition includes Ultronics’ design center in Cheltenham and a sales and applications office in Sweden. Ultronics’ electro-hydraulic control valves, systems and software are used in mobile applications in construction, forestry, agriculture and other markets. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

‘This technology is an important strategic addition to our hydraulics product portfolio within Eaton,’ says Craig Arnold, senior VP and group executive for Eaton’s fluid power business. ‘We’ll be able to maximize the potential of Ultronics’ expertise and innovative technology through our global presence, capabilities and reputation in the hydraulics industry.’

Steve Turner, Ultronics’ CEO, adds that, ‘We’re delighted to conclude this sale to Eaton. Ultronics’ technology has been developed and refined over the last 10 years, and can now go on to achieve its full market potential with Eaton’s support.’

Eaton is a diversified, global, industrial manufacturer that had sales of $7.2 billion in 2002. The company is a leader in fluid power systems; electrical power quality, distribution and control; automotive engine air management and fuel economy; and intelligent systems for fuel economy and safety in trucks. Eaton has 51,000 employees and sells products in more than 50 countries.

Ultronics’ second principal activity is designing, developing, and supplying thin-film pressure sensors through its Senstronics business. Also located in Newton Aycliffe, U.K., Ultronics employs 70 people, and supplies advanced sensing solutions to customers worldwide.
