Eaton, Emerson, Honeywell, Invensys, Wonderware win Frost & Sullivan awards

Miami, FL— Frost & Sullivan recently announced the 36 winners of its 2004 Excellence in Industrial Technology Awards for solutions ranging from industrial process control and automation to inspection technologies. Frost & Sullivan is a San Antonio-based industry analysis company. Winners with relevance to industrial controls and automation include:

BadgerMeter , a manufacturer of flow measurement and data management technologies, won the Technology of the Year Award for its Orion AMR system. Orion includes BadgerMeter’s Recordall Transmitter Register, which collects data from a meter. The system sends the data to a vehicle-based receiver through Orion’s radio transponder, which is a one-way radio frequency broadcast technology exempt from FCC licensing, and then on to a computer for further processing.

Eaton was awarded the Power Quality Company of the Year Award for its market contribu-tions, including its products and services commitment, as well as its overall standing as a com-pany via its well-planned and timed acquisitions and strategic alliances.

Emerson Process Management received two awards: the Process Control and Automation Lifetime Achievement Award and the Process Control & Automation Company of the Year. John Berra, president of Emerson Process Management, gave the keynote address at the awards reception, stressing that true innovation and vision can’t be market researched. For example, he noted that several years ago, no one would have admitted to be willing to pay $4 for a cup of coffee and listen to Billie Holiday songs, but the success of Starbucks proved that its vision was right. “Customers can’t tell you what to do,” Berra said, “Customers can only tell you what their pain is.”

Honeywell received the Customer Value Leadership Award in Pharmaceutical Automation. The award was given to Honeywell in recognition of its services and integrated solutions, including its Enterprise Building Integrator facility management system and POMS manufacturing execution system (MES) that enhance the value of product ownership for its customers. By integrating best practices with quality and regulatory compliance, Honeywell Pharmaceutical Solutions has enabled customers to minimize risk, increase throughput, lower production costs, and reduce time-to-market.

Invensys also received two awards: the Industrial Automation Technology Award for its ArchestrA framework, while its Wonderware subsidiary received the Customer Value Leadership Award. In accepting the awards for Invensys, Mike Bradley, president of its Wonderware and ArchestrA business units, said the Frost & Sullivan award was great recognition for the five years and $80 million Invensys spent in developing ArchestrA, which has been installed in more than 100 plants since its introduction a year ago. Wonderware received the Customer Value Leadership Award for demonstrated excellence in consistently delivering customer value in its industry. Frost & Sullivan noted that Wonderware customers have reported 90-95% satisfaction levels, and Wonderware software has helped reduce operating costs by 30-70%.

Seepex won the North American Process Control Equipment Company of the Year award for its market share gains in the positive displacement rotary progressive cavity pumps market.
