Nashville, TN— For the first time ever, users from all of Emerson Process Management ’s divisions met under one roof to exchange ideas, experiences and product directions. This inaugural event, “Emerson Global Users Exchange Conference,” was held Sept. 29-Oct. 3 at the Opryland Resort and Convention Center.
Though users from Emerson’s many divisions have met separately for 17 years, this meeting was the first to gather all of them and their users together. During the five-day event, more than 1,000 participants from 28 countries had the opportunity to attend more than 165 sessions. The overall theme of the conference was on improving business performance and obtaining a positive return on investment.
Citing the global consolidation of safety instrumented system standards, keynote speaker William Goble, principal partner of exida.com, says that, “This is a very good time to be a controls engineer. Standards, such as IEC61511 and IEC 61508, are well written, understandable, practical, and are being accepted worldwide. With these elements aligned, and the availability of sophisticated technology, control engineers can truly find fulfillment in what they are doing.”
With four-hour short courses, and 40-minute workshop and roundtable discussions available in nine topic tracks, users also attended information exchanges about instrumentation, valves, control systems, and business, project and work processes.
And, lest you believe it was all work and no play, an evening of singing and dancing at Nashville’s famous Wild Horse Saloon demonstrated that even a bunch of propeller heads know how to cut loose once in a while.
