Atlanta, GA — Interstate paper LLC , Riceboro, GA, installed an integrated Sinamics paper machine drives system from Siemens Energy & Automation during a short plant shutdown. Working in partnership with the equipment vendor, the plant completed the project under a turnkey contract using Siemens management and responsibility.
The system includes power distribution, transformers, Sinamics drives, electrical housing, motors, and control automation. Scope of the work ranged from demolition of the existing equipment and civil and structural engineering work for the electrical housing to the installation of motors, gearboxes, control stations, complete cabling, and startup services.
The partnership between Siemens and the paper mill reportedly achieved all designed speed targets on the paper machine. The mill said it chose Siemens for the job because of its broad solution scope, application expertise, and commitment to the paper industry. Interstate Paper, a manufacturer of kraft linerboard, was built in the mid-60s and began operations in 1968. Current production levels are approximately 900 tons per day.
