Honeywell launches wireless HMI for process automation
Phoenix, AZ— Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions’ (ACS) Industry Solutions business introduced Aug. 26 its Mobile PKS, which it reports is the first wireless human interface for industrial process automation.
Mobile PKS extends the reach of automation by providing mobile computing capability for Experion PKS, Honeywell’s Process Knowledge System. Experion PKS reportedly controls the scope of production, and is tightly integrated with distributed control for site-wide information, management and workflow optimization. Mobile PKS’ open architecture also allows it to perform easily with Honeywell’s existing TPS and PlantScape systems.
No matter how far they are from the control room, Mobile PKS enables engineering, operations and maintenance personnel using handheld computers to manage work processes, and capture and share knowledge throughout the plant or mill. Mobile PKS includes value-added software; rugged wireless hand-held computing devices; and complete project services from initial site surveys for wireless network integration to application implementation with Honeywell wireless devices.
Software applications available for Mobile PKS include IntelaTrac PKS and Mobile Station PKS. IntelaTrac PKS, designed for remote work force management, allows field personnel to integrate high-quality field inspection data and asset management functions with control room operations. Mobile Station PKS provides control system and asset management information to remote users.
‘Mobile PKS allows everyone to collaborate in operating the business, whether they work in the control room or out in the plant,’ says Jerry Walker, Honeywell Industry Solutions’ business development vp. “Mobile PKS expands knowledge management to all parts of the facility, which is critical to improving business results. It converges management of operations and maintenance activities to unify optimization of both process and equipment.’
