Chicago, IL— Siemens is presenting two new services for machine tool manufacturers and end-users at IMTS 2004, Sept. 8-15, at McCormick Place. Virtual Production and Mechatronic Support offer assistance in developing and operating innovative machines.

Virtual Production is based on a software tool developed by Siemens, in which the process chain is subjected to a simulative analysis from the CAD/CAM system to the workpiece surface. Instead of repeated testing on the actual machine, programs can be optimized on the computer with the exception of the numerical control program, which is simulated on a real machine.

Mechatronic Support enables Siemens to becomes a strategic partner to OEMs from concept, through prototype building, and on up to the machine’s completion and operation. A customer’s construction engineers collaborate closely with the Mechatronic Support team in this process.

The company adds that the unique part of Mechatronic Support’s approach is that the simulation also includes the machine’s electrical drives and motor system. Simulation results are discussed with the user, and integrated into the next simulation phase, which accelerates the development process in every phase. In addition, virtual prototypes are tested to ensure the success of development. www.sea.siemens.com For more information visit, www.SiemensCNC.com .
