Yokogawa Electric Corp . and Moore Industries-International, Inc . have entered into an agreement for Yokogawa to offer Moore’s HART concentrator system (HCS) for HART enabled instrumentation. The HCS allows users to convert the HART digital signal to a standard Modbus RTU communication protocol. This now expands the scope of an earlier agreement which included Moore’s HIM HART loop monitor. Moore Industries will provide sales, marketing and application support to Yokogawa’s worldwide distribution channels.
The HART concentrator system makes it possible for users to extract data from multiple pieces of Yokogawa HART enabled instrumentation. Up to 16 HART devices, including flowmeters, pressure sensors and multivariable transmitters, can be connected to a single HCS. Users who may not have HART capability in their control systems can then acquire all digital process and diagnostic data from the instruments and send it via Modbus to a control system.
Installed across each transmitter’s 4-20 mA connection, the HCS extracts all of a smart transmitter’s HART data by reading the digital data superimposed on the analog process variable. For example, when used with Yokogawa’s Rotamass 3 Series Coriolis Mass Flowmeter, the HCS will extract mass flow, density, temperature, volume flow, concentration, net flow, and diagnostics and send it via Modbus for direct input to a Modbus-based control system.
While Yokogawa will be promoting the device for its equipment, the HCS can work equally well with any HART enabled device, allowing a mix of manufacturers to be included on the same segment.
