Added Information LabView 6 i broke new frontiers in taking advantage of Internet technologies for measurement and automation-and helped in the frontiers of talking to animals! With the new features in LabView 6 i , researchers at the Fauna Communications Research Institute are learning how to talk to elephants to prevent village stampedes. With the new waveform datatype and array handling functions in LabView 6 i , MicroCraft Corp., a National Instruments Select Integrator, built a LabView-based portable sound analysis laboratory for the nonprofit institute dedicated to the study of animal communication.
Researchers use LabView and data acquisition hardware to record animal sounds, analyze them, and determine a pattern of communication. This type of research contributes extensively to our knowledge of a given animal and may help with its continued conservation and protection. In addition, MicroCraft Corp. can use the Internet capabilities of LabView to publish live data from another continent through a wireless Internet link.
