Molex Inc. added BradCommunications eNetMeter for DeviceNet to its line of diagnostic tools. The eNetMeter DN is a passive device that continuously monitors a DeviceNet network and sends information over Ethernet to a PLC or PC monitoring system. Information can be read directly by an EtherNet/IP master. Optionally, data can be accessed through a DLL interface, an OPC server or the BradCommunications NetAlytix software. NetAlytix is PC-based software that provides an easy-to-use graphical display of network data. Instant flagging of errors and marginal conditions along with pop-up tips provide guidance on possible causes of errors and potential corrective action. The meter, with high-speed sampling, is said to provide extremely accurate measurements of the network parameters. Comparing acceptable base measurements of a “good” network can help predict imminent failures of devices. When an OPC status tag is analyzed and is found to be outside acceptable limits, steps can be taken to repair the system prior to downtime. It can be used to diagnose current faults on a non-functioning network by measuring hundreds of network parameters. This can minimize downtime by pinpointing the node or location of the fault. Data also can be stored to historian software. DeviceNet networks applications include automotive, petrochemical, food and beverage, material handling, forest products, mining and metals and others. www.woodhead.com
