Saline, Mich. - Xycom Automation Inc., a subsidiary of Pro-face America, announced March 25 that it has entered into a strategic OEM agreement with Motorola Computer Group, a part of Motorola Inc. This agreement allows Xycom to purchase, re-label, and integrate select Motorola 68K VMEbus products as part of a system solution for Xycom customers.
Saline, Mich. – Xycom Automation Inc. , a subsidiary of Pro-face America, announced March 25 that it has entered into a strategic OEM agreement with Motorola Computer Group , a part of Motorola Inc. This agreement allows Xycom to purchase, re-label, and integrate select Motorola 68K VMEbus products as part of a system solution for Xycom customers. Under the agreement, Xycom will integrate these Motorola VMEbus products in customer applications that use other Xycom I/O and CPU products in industrial automation from power plant and robotic control to PLC applications. The Xycom Embedded Systems Group, located in Saline, will provide these value-added services based around their VME Pentium Processors, VME I/O hardware, Industry Pack (IP) I/O modules, and Board Support Software packages.
‘We see this agreement as a way to help our customers integrate the gap between their Motorola and Intel based CPU systems. Adding value around the Xycom I/O hardware and Board Support Packages will be a key strategy to provide a more complete VMEbus solution to our customers,’ said Jerry Tubbs, business unit manager for Xycom’s Embedded Systems Group. ‘We are committed to developing and providing value-added solutions for our OEM customers. This OEM agreement with Motorola shows Xycom’s commitment to the VMEbus and the industry. Like Motorola, we believe VME will be around for many years.’

This is a great example of the continuing support of a very extensive installed base of VME products that have been shipping for about 15 years,’ said Greg Novak, product marketing manager, Motorola Computer Group. ‘Xycom’s Embedded Systems Group adds a level of integration value to these select products that customers desire.’
Mr. Tubbs adds, ‘Xycom’s customers are industrial, and I/O is critical to their product. This alliance with Motorola and the ability to integrate their smart 68k Industry Pack carriers into our solutions, affords us a path that recognizes the intellectual property that OEMs have invested in their I/O product.’
Recently, Motorola unveiled its ‘VME Renaissance’ strategy to dramatically increase the longevity, capability and performance of the VMEbus for key applications in markets such as medical, industrial automation, defense, and aerospace.
