The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has released Revision 1 of MG 1-2003, “Motors and Generators” standard, the 500-plus page ”bible” on the proper selection and application of motors and generators. This first revision to MG 1-2003 incorporates several updates and changes.

Revision 1-2004 (to MG 1-2003) includes complete revision of Part 5, “Classification of Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures for Rotating Machines,” which brings MG 1 into alignment with the international standard IEC 60034-5, says NEMA. Also revised is the section related to applying v-belt sheaves to ac motors with anti-friction bearings.

“This revision to further align with international standards and address changes in the application of electric motors maintains the position of the NEMA MG 1 standard as the definitive standard for electric machines in North America,” says Roger Daugherty, technical committee chairman of NEMA’s Motor and Generator Section.

MG 1-2003, Revision 1-2004 is available for purchase for $79.00 in either electronic or hardcopy format. Visit NEMA’s Web site or contact Global Engineering Documents at 800 854-7179 or +1 303 397-7956 (international).
