Omron’s light curtain internalizes functions, uses handled programmer

Schaumburg, Ill. – Omron recently reported that its new F3SN-A Type 4 safety light curtain incorporates several innovations. For example, all its features are contained within the light curtain, rather than being housed in an external control box. Also, for easier programming functions, F3SN-A uses what Omron states is an industry-first handheld programmer. This device makes the light curtain easier to use because setting up all its programmable features is performed with a simple copy-and-paste function.

In addition, F3SN-A has sequential floating blanking that keeps track of the order in which the curtain’s light beams are broken, which provides a higher level of safety in floating conditions. Also, the light curtain’s auxiliary output can be programmed for multiple functions, such as light ‘on,’ dark ‘on,’ light diagnosis, lockout, outermost beam, blanking and specified beam.

Users can serially connect up to three F3SN-A light curtains, a setup that allows for added safety when protecting against multiple hazards or access points. This capability is aided by the light curtain’s 25-msec response time, which Omrons adds allows designers to mount the curtain close to the point of hazard.
