R. Stahl Schaltgerate reports that it has launched an updated and optimized version of its mini Clix plug connector system. These improvements reportedly make operating errors and damage impossible, even when the system is used in extreme conditions.

Mini Clix is designed to let users install, service, or exchange all devices and systems during Zone 1 operation without disconnection and without procuring a special permit. Even Ex d field devices can be converted to plug and play versions.Besides being available in their usual plastic and nickel-plated brass construction, mini Clix is now available in AISI 316L stainless steel demanded by users in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Brass and stainless-steel versions also are available with armored cabling required in harsh environments.

Another innovation is a version suitable for installation in Ex d housings with volumes exceeding two liters. This is can be used in Zone 1 for explosion group IIC. New mini Clix Ex d device plug and flange socket installation variants also are available with an NPT thread, as well as metric M20 thread, and are suitable for international applications.Further additions to mini Clix plug connector system are due at the end of 2005. These include a y-adapter for looping through data or power supply lines used in fieldbus installations; a six-pin version; and a 6+PE-pin version.
