Symmetricom reports that Emerson Process Management has formally approved Symmetricom’s NTS-200 network time server for use in Emerson’s DeltaV digital automation system. Symmetricom has also joined Emerson’s Alliance program, which helps suppliers integrate products and services with Emerson’s solutions to reduce costs, risk, and implementation time. Symmetricom manufactures atomic clocks and network synchronization and timing solutions.

“Symmetricom’s time servers have been used with DeltaV for several years, meeting all our criteria, including affordability, availability, reliability, support for many nodes and NTP compatibility and GPS synchronization,” says Chris Felts, Emerson’s Alliance program manager. “Plus, they are extremely easy to install, configure and use. Most of our customers are process control engineers and plant operations personnel, not networking experts, so ease of use was the major differentiator for us. Further, Symmetricom has been a valuable partner, as their network time server has become an integral part of the DeltaV system. We look forward to our continued alliance.”

Paul Skoog, Symetricon’s marketing manager, adds, “We understand that if one event in the DeltaV system is triggered out of sequence with the others, the entire process may fail. Our network time servers offer the needed requirements to keep DeltaV systems time synchronized and accurate. We’ve been able to provide the affordability and ease of use necessary to meet the standard of excellence Emerson requires.”

NTS-200 is used to synchronize clocks on servers and workstations across entire enterprise networks. Accurately synchronized clocks are critical for network log file accuracy, billing systems, electronic transactions, database integrity, and software development, among other essential applications. NTS-200 provides reliable and secure network synchronization technology by combining a high-speed/capacity network interface, versatile GPS timing receiver technology, Web-enabled user interface, and a wide range of network protocol support for seamless integration into an existing network.
