That’s the claim made by Scancon A/S of Allerød, Denmark, for its new 2MC incremental encoder, which offers resolutions up to 5,000 pulses/rev (20,000 counts) in a 16-mm diameter body. The encoder uses true lines on disk rather than interpolated lower line counts to provide increased accuracy, says Scancon.
The 2MC runs on 5 V input and comes with a CMOS output. It can operate at 12,000 rpm (200 kHz), has shaft- and hollow-shaft versions, and is available with a standard shielded cable or optional ribbon cable mounted with a 10-pin IDC connector. Low power consumption allows the encoder to be directly connected to a PLC. Numerous accessories are available for mounting 2MC on most major brands of fractional horsepower motors (under 750 W).
