Contract handles baggage at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2

FKI Logistex extends its Changi Airport relationship for high-speed sorting.

FKI Logistex announced that it received a full-service contract for the baggage operations at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2, covering operation and maintenance of equipment from various suppliers used in baggage check-in, transportation, security control, identification, and sorting. The airport serves approximately 24 million passengers a year; FKI Logistex has managed operation and maintenance of the baggage operations at Changi Airport Terminal 2 for the past five years.

FKI Logistex technicians occupy the airport’s baggage control room 24/7 to ensure the system is running smoothly and continuously; 45 staff work three shifts, seven days per week. Availability and long-term functioning, service, and maintenance are included through June 30, 2011.

The company has similar contracts worldwide for “baggage handling in airports and for material handling in post and parcel systems,’ says Peter Elmvang, marketing manager, FKI Logistex Europe. This award, he says, “shows great confidence in our capabilities, but also indicates how important FKI Logistex is as a long-term partner in Changi Airport’s future plans and operations.’ Company technologies include high-speed sortation, conveyor systems, palletizing, paperless pick products, AS/RS, controls, order fulfillment systems, radio frequency identification (RFID) implementation, EDS integration, baggage handling systems, warehouse control systems, and other material handling automation.

FKI is among more than 1,000 system integrators in the Control Engineering Automation Integrator Guide, available with multi-parameter search functionality at www.controleng.com/integrators .
