CANtrak universal automotive- and industrial-grade operator display from TeleflexMorse now includes an SAE J1587 protocol in its communications capability. The addition makes it simple to create instrument displays for diesel-powered plant and equipment, such as pumps, compressors, generators, and drilling rigs, and is said to be particularly useful for suppliers of refurbished engines that need to interface to data using an older protocol. Users also have the option of interfacing using CANtrak’s existing CANbus port and J1939 communications capability.
Large LCD (4.3 in. x 4.3 in./110 mm x 110 mm DIN format) universal HMI can provide a complete instrument panel for equipment, able to display four instruments and alarms simultaneously with five user keys for accessing other engine gauges or data. Module offers a two-wire RS-485 interface for connection to ECUs (engine management computer).
Instrument comes with the company’s ready-to-use “generic engine monitoring” (GEM) software, which automatically creates highly graphical instrument clusters to display engine parameters and alarms. It supports all major diesel engine parameters and active fault alarms. Engine data are displayed graphically using menu-driven screens. Configuration possibilities include the selection of gauges displayed on any screen, display of data in analog or digital form, graph trending, units used, and selection from up to 8 languages. Data parameters supported include engine rpm, torque, accelerator position, coolant temperature and level, oil temperature and pressure, battery voltage, fuel rate (instantaneous), engine hours, and total fuel used.
The 160 x 128 pixel display features FSTN (film supertwist nematic) technology for visibility in direct sunlight with backlighting. It is IP67 rated and operates from–25 to 75 °C; optionally to –40 °C with the aid of a heating element.
