DP Technology, developer and supplier of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) machine tool software expanded its Esprit CAM software with additional 3-axis, 5-axis, and high-speed machining capabilities. To do that, DP Technology acquired purchased Auton, “the leading developer and supplier of CAM software for mold and model-making within Italy.” The cash acquisition, amount not disclosed, “provides significant, immediate and long-term opportunities for Auton and Esprit customers, employees, reseller, and partners,” DP Technology says; the combined companies are to move forward with existing personnel and two products marketed under the Esprit name. The products will retain individual design, focus, and development teams while benefiting from the strength of one brand.
Esprit, DP Technology’s flagship product, is said to be a powerful, high-performance, full-spectrum programming system for milling, turning, wire EDM, and multitasking machine tools. The Auton CAM system reportedly provides automated, easy-to-use, robust and powerful 3-axis and 5-axis machining cycles. Using knowledge of in-process stock, remaining material, and integrated simulation and verification, Auton delivers fast, safe, and reliable programming for many 3-D machining applications, the company says. DP’s regional offices in Europe, Asia, and America will coordinate sales and support activities for each product.
DP says the founders at Auton (Francesco Bandini, Marco D’Ancona, and Roberto Parigi) agree the development teams in Florence and Camarillo have been dramatically strengthened as a result of this merger; exchange of ideas, technology, and business processes will benefit each product. Also, Auton founders anticipate returning to greater involvement in product research and development. “With this merging of Italian Design with American Technology, DP Technology reinforces its commitment to CNC programmers,” says Dan Frayssinet, DP Technology’s chief executive officer; the merger “provides our customers, employees, resellers, and partners with greater opportunity, significantly more strength, and added security.” DP Technology expects to maintain its headquarters and product development team in Camarillo, CA.
