Alstom has won a 425-million euro (about $521 million, as of Jan. 27, 2006) turnkey contract from Sohar Aluminium Co. It will construct a digitally controlled, 1,000 MW, gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Sohar, Oman.

Contract scope covers engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning; as well as a 15-year service agreement—for gas turbines, generators, and auxiliaries. Slated to commence in December 2005, the project is scheduled for June 2008 completion.

The plant, supplying electricity to a new aluminum smelter, will comprise four Alstom GT13E2 gas-turbines along with four heat-recovery steam generators, two steam turbines, and six generators.
