Hardware - HMI, operator interface, thin-client: Kontron's HMI, OmniClient, is developed to optimize the factory floor by providing a single access point for factory production information. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice finalist.
Kontron’s new HMI, OmniClient, is developed to optimize the factory floor by providing a single access point for factory production information. With its high-performance processor, Kontron’s OmniClient can perform complex calculations in real-time. Though initially designed for Industrial Automation, it is gaining popularity for Medical Applications.
OmniClient was designed to give employees real-time access to critical information and enable better evaluation of the entire production line or manufacturing facility. Important technical features of the OmniClient are the projected capacitive (PCAP) touch panel technology and the scratch resistant glass front with IP65 protection against dust and dampness. The PCAP touch panel enables accurate operation even while wearing gloves. Due to the functionality of the multi-touch resembling that of available consumer products, the OmniClient fits the new expectations of the market and has a fast learning curve for operation. Additional features that make OmniClient the leader among available HMIs are its high-performance processor supporting multiple remote (up to 30 m) displays in three screen sizes (15.6 in, 18.5 in and 21.5 in) and an easily customizable speaker bar and microphone for remote training and communication.
Kontron’s OmniClient supports Windows XP, 7, 8 and embedded Linux OS and can run two displays, with an option of up to eight displays, making the OmniClient ideal for running real-time control and visualization simultaneously. The CPU is third generation Intel Core i5/i7 processors, with up to four 3.5 GHz cores and as much as sixteen gigabytes DDR3 memory. The OmniClient features a broad range of interfaces such as 3xGigabit Ethernet, 2xDisplay Port, DVI-I, mini PCIe slots, PCIe x16 slot and 6xUSB 2.0 as well as options of up to 18 GPIOs, Wifi, RFID and 5MP camera. The OmniClient can easily be upgraded when newer technologies become available due to its modular building block design and industry standard mini ITX board.
