HMI: GE Fanuc, Wipro plan automotive solutions; iFIX 4.5 ships

GE Fanuc Automation and Wipro Technologies will collaborate globally to provide the automotive industry with solutions in production management. These will benefit customers in the integration of production management and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. “The manufacturing operations of the automotive industry present large scale implementation challenges that are well-served by this arrangement,” said Sudip Banerjee, president of enterprise solutions for Wipro Technologies.

GE Fanuc Automation’s chief marketing officer Ed Martin added, “Wipro Technologies is a well-respected provider of implementation services in production management. Couple that expertise with GE Fanuc’s industry-leading Proficy solutions and we have a winning solution for customers.” The scope of the agreement covers services, point solution development and joint go-to-market activities. Banerjee added, “GE Fanuc and Wipro Technologies have substantial experience and shared relationships with the leaders in the automotive industry, making this arrangement beneficial to our clients. This alliance is a building block in Wipro’s overall solution strategy to enable a collaborative value network for our manufacturing clients.” Areas of business focus and expertise include:

Wipro’s Partha Mukherjee, head of the company’s Center of Excellence: Automotive Industry, will speak at GE Fanuc’s Discover 2007 Users Conference in St. Louis, October 22-25, 2007. The title of his presentation is “Startup New Lines on Time and On Budget with More Flexibility.”

In other news, GE Fanuc Automation has announced the availability of Proficy HMI/SCADA– iFIX 4.5, a new version of its monitoring, control and data management product. The new visualization product adds power and flexibility and improved ease of use, says the company. Proficy Change Management version 5.7, also available, allows users to gain control over changes to their iFIX systems, enhance security, help manage application development life cycles, and provide the ability to recover quickly from disasters. It offers more detailed reporting capabilities to ensure maintenance of system integrity.

According to Prasad Pai, iFIX product manager, GE Fanuc, “We focused on making infrastructure improvements, customer requested usability updates, and added some exciting new capabilities.” iFIX 4.5 supports operation on the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and automatically adopts the latest operating system look and feel throughout its applications and dialogs.
