How digital transformation and AI are changing process manufacturing

Digital transformation remains a major focus for manufacturers and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is changing many companies' approach. See video.

Digital transformation has become a major focus for manufacturers in the last few years as they look to improve their operations by making them more automated and efficient. The journey is a daunting one for many companies and often don’t know where to start. Many are looking for guidance and advice on where to start as they grapple with the new realities in manufacturing.

Jason Urso, vice president and CTO of Honeywell, highlighted how digital transformation has changed in the past year and what these changes in a video interview from Honeywell Connect in Dallas. Digital transformation was a major topic at the event and so was the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), which has become a major focus with programs such as ChatGPT permeating the public consciousness.

Other topics discussed in the interview include the steps companies can take on their digital transformation journey, sustainability’s role in manufacturing and the impact the uncertain economy is having on manufacturers and their plans for the future.

“We’ve been solving the same problems. We want our plants to run more reliably and safely and more efficiently,” Urso said of digital transformation and how AI can help improve manufacturing operations. “We’ve been doing that for 40 or 50 years since the beginning of process automation. But now the technologies are available to help us do that better. It allows us to advance to state of the art and improve from where we have been in the past.”
