Two instrumentation manufacturers are jointly developing an automatic tank gauging (ATG) and inventory monitoring system specifically for the Chinese petroleum market. Ametek Automation & Process Technologies formed a strategic technology alliance with Yan Shan Mei Ke (YSMK) Electronic Instrument Co. to develop systems that meet China’s growing need for modern petroleum distribution facilities and retail gasoline stations while ensuring environmental compliance. The systems, said to include state-of-the-art level sensor technology and user-friendly controls configured for the Chinese market, reportedly will allow companies to manage inventory, provide leak detection reports, and improve environmental control.

Under the alliance, Ametek, which manufactures level measurement instrumentation, will provide technical support and guidance with sensor communications protocols and controller testing and evaluation. YSMK, a joint venture of Beijing Yan Shan Shidai Electronic Instrument Co. and Beijing HuaMeiTe Technology and Trading Co., will incorporate Ametek’s 7250 Series high-resolution digital probe into its controller. YSMK is a subsidiary of Sinopec (China Petroleum & Chemical Co.), a major Chinese producer of petroleum and petrochemical products and refiner of fuel, lubrication oil, and petrochemical feedstocks.

“We believe our system is superior to other wired systems currently available in China and competitive with any of the newest products available in the United States,” said James Visnic, vice president and general manager of Ametek Sensor Technology. “Our new probe provides 0.0001-in. resolution and is the highest resolution probe available for these systems.”
