Portescap , a Danaher Motion company, introduced nuvoDisc, which the company characterizes as an innovative family of flat brushless DC miniature motors with a small footprint (32mm diameter and 11.7mm length) engineered specifically for markets where miniaturization is key, such as portable respirators and barcode scanners. The company says a high-speed slotless design significantly reduces vibration and eliminates cogging to provide smoother operation and better accuracy for maintaining a stable speed compared with conventional miniature flat motors. The company also provides a slotted design for applications that require detent torque.
The company says these motors are over 75% shorter and 90% lighter than conventional flat motors, allowing engineers even greater ability to miniaturize their applications without compromising performance. Offering speeds of up to 50,000 rpm and mechanical power output of up to 30 watts (10 mNm of maximum continuous output torque), the company claims these motors provide the highest efficiency among all miniature DC motors.
