PAS, Invensys Foxboro agree on alarm management package

Houston, TX—Plant Automation Services Inc. (PAS) and Invensys Foxboro (Foxboro, Mass.) announced Jan. 2 that Invensys will distribute PAS' AMO Plus alarm management package as part of a complete Foxboro automation solution.

Dave Shepard, Invensys Foxboro’s marketing vp for its I/A Series Platform, adds that, “The partnership between PAS and Invensys will offer Foxboro customers a complete alarm management solution that will further increase worker safety and reduce the risk of industrial accidents. AMO Plus will be offered as a supplement to the current I/A Series Alarm Manager package, providing users significant gains in the efficiency of alarm analysis and performance of their I/A Series systems. The solution establishes a consistent alarm philosophy that is applied throughout the plant for successful alarm improvement programs. Furthermore, the technology employed by both parties works together seamlessly to enhance the optimization of current assets, ultimately leading to improvements in overall plant reliability.”

AMO Plus consists of a systematic method for defining, measuring, analyzing and improving the alarm system on a control system; provides a framework to apply an alarm philosophy that reflects industry best practices such as EEMUA 191; and helps meet the requirements of OSHA Process Safety Management Regulation 1910.119.

Other AMO Plus capabilities include:

  • Event analysis, which is analysis of control system event logs and alarm configuration necessary to evaluate and benchmark the performance of the alarm systems against industry best practices and identifying “bad actor” alarms;

  • Performance metrics, monitoring and reporting, which is automatic monitoring and report-ing of event analysis for key alarm performance metrics and operator changes; and

  • Alarm documentation and rationalization, which is a systematic method of establishing alarm priorities, and maintaining detailed alarm system documentation, including the cause, consequence, and proper response to each alarm.
