Burlington, MA — Reflecting more than 25 years of working with the world’s leading process manufacturers and engineering and construction firms, Aspen Technology Inc . says it is making adoption of sustainable best practices easier

Supporting the goals of V7.0, director of engineering solutions at Dow Chemical, Jerry Gipson, said, “Over the past several years, Dow has been optimizing its engineering workflow to accelerate the transition from conceptual design to basic and detailed engineering, and we are always glad to see new offerings that support these efforts.”

Gipson said the integration of process simulation with model-based economic analysis and equipment design improves Dow’s engineering efficiency, and reduces the potential for error from manual transfer of data. Automation of data flow among engineering tools also allows “Dow to develop better, more economical process designs with a higher return on capital investment,” he said.

Aspen Technology says it is responding to the needs of engineers like Gipson, as well as to the shrinking of engineering resources and workforce expertise in process plants. Those factors contributed to the company building its software around five key features:

1. An integrated conceptual engineering workflow. V7.0 allows customers to launch applications, create simulation cases, perform integrated economic and safety analysis, and manage and compare projects from a single, easy-to-use interface.

2. Global project execution. V7.0’s integrated basic engineering environment is based on AspenTech’s patented Master Data Model with a vendor-neutral interface. It provides engineering teams in multiple locations with fast access to project data.

3. Energy modeling innovations. 2 separation, coal gasification and bio-diesel processes, optimizing the efficient design of emerging energy technologies.

4. Support for complex process modeling and optimization. V7.0 delivers Physical Property Data across process modeling through equation-oriented modeling. An expansion of cooperation with the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) has tripled the number of compounds that aspenONE models.

5. Engineering product usage analysis.

of process facilities can now be extended back into the early stages of the asset lifecycle,” said Dr. Ric Jackson, executive director of the Fiatech Consortium. He added that FIATECH members are pleased to see a major vendor of tools for conceptual and basic design embrace the ISO 15926 standard.

V7.0 also contains several technology advances designed to make it easier to access, adopt, optimize usage of, and measure results from aspenOne. For example, engineering teams can get up to speed faster with V7.0’s intuitive user interface and best practices embedded in applications through an “Expert in a Box” and pop-up viewlets. By providing a real-time understanding of how Aspen products are being used across the enterprise, V7.0 also makes it easy for IT departments and engineering teams to compare to best practices among departments and facilities.
