Festo CPX-FMT software exports configuration assembly data from the electric/pneumatic Distributed I/O system, Festo CPX, into RSLogix5000 software from Rockwell Automation. CPX supports Ethernet/IP as a network protocol. This is a March 2011 Control Engineering Product Exclusive.

Festo CPX-FMT software exports configuration assembly data from the Festo CPX Distributed I/O Valve Manifold into RSLogix5000 software from Rockwell Automation. Festo CPX electric/pneumatic distributed I/O system has a high variety of I/O modules. It connects up to 512 inputs and 512 outputs of modules per fieldbus node, with as many as 128 valve coils and eight additional supply modules for pressure and power zones. CPX can operate as an electric, pneumatic, or combination I/O system, with an optional CoDeSys controller for “Intelligent Slave” applications.
The new Festo CPX FMT tool allows RSLogix5000 software to import CPX configuration assembly data without using RSLogix device profiles, which are unavailable for similar non-Rockwell remote-I/O devices, according to Festo.
Configuring the CPX-Terminal as an Ethernet/IP device requires selection of “Generic Ethernet Module” within RSLogix configuration options. Then the user sets up input and output data size, data format, and IP address. Device configuration data (device startup parameters) are currently ignored.
The FMT tool simplifies the process by integrating configuration data, including parameters. Step 1 – configure the CPX-Terminal with CPX-FMT, manually or with an online feature that automatically downloads the configuration. Change parameters as needed (all parameters also can be changed in RSLogix after the export/import procedure). IP-address settings also will be included in the L5K export. Select File->Export->RSLogix (.L5K) and save file to disk. Step 2 – Import .L5K-File into new Project. Step 3 – Paste it into main RSLogix5000 project.
Benefits: CPX FMT software maintains correct data format and I/O size, integrates CPX module parameters, and allows changes of CPX parameters in existing projects. Also, after adding one or more CPX-Terminals to an RSLogix project, the CPX-FMT software can change parameters.
