Motion `expert’ on a CD
Selecting the right servo drive, motor and, gearbox can be a tedious process. Manual calculations are prone to error. “Motion Analyzer,” one of the CD’s features, automatically calculates critical motion data and supplies a list of configurations to satisfy an application. Users can organize multiple files for a specific project, with the ability to handle production lines or large-scale machines (up to eight motion axes).
A “selection interface” checks the compatibility of product combinations selected. It avoids combinations that could be incompatible in the servo system. Users also can study the solutions in table form sorted by various ways:
Parameters (e.g., peak torque, bus utilization, and cost);
Best passes (or combinations); and
Nearest failures (or “non-solutions”).
A Design/Tolerance tool (or ratio analysis) allows designers to make small modifications in the application to change a failed solution into a passed one.
CAD for error-proof assembly; gearbox selection
Motion Book 4.0 offers integrated CAD capabilities to simulate the electrical assembly of motion systems. CAD simulation shows users how performance of the drive, gear, and motor changes as parameters are added or modified. It serves as an electrical assembly system check in real time, eliminating costly errors of traditional machine assembly.
According to Rockwell Automation, over 50% of motion applications require some type of gearbox or gear reduction. And the right gearbox permits use of a smaller, less expensive motor. Motion Book 4.0 verifies that motor output will match gearbox input, and check compatibility between gearbox and motor shafts.
Motion Book 4.0 CD is available in five languages (English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish). A product catalog, glossary of motion terms, application examples, and “system selector” complete the package. The system selector does not forget peripherals, such as cables and connectors, and automatically produces a detailed bill of materials when a user completes the selection process.
