Chicago, IL— Freescale Semiconductor and Millennial Net have formed a partnership to help OEMs rapidly develop and deploy wireless mesh network solutions for large, complex, commercial applications in industrial automation, healthcare, and military/homeland defense markets. Millennial Net will sell, integrate and support MeshScape wireless sensor networking system on Freescale’s MC1319x platform. The two firms announced their joint effort this week at Sensors Expo 2005 , June 6-9, at McCormick Place’s Lakeside Center.
Millennial Net reports that its MeshScape scales to hundreds of nodes, and has deployed numerous large-scale industrial-class wireless networks. The combination of Freescale’s robust set of RF transceivers with the field-proven reliability of MeshScape’s mesh networking system enables organizations to have a configuration that is best suited for their specific application needs.
“Millennial Net’s MeshScape complements Freescale’s ZigBee offering, and allows us to address a wider variety of customer requirements,” says Brett Black, commercial wireless manager of Freescale’s Wireless and Mobile Systems group. “Our customers now have more choices and greater flexibility in developing wireless networks that meet their cost, performance, and time-to-market needs.”
Neil Ferris, Millennial Net’s executive chairman, adds that, “We’ve brought together a leader in deployed sensor networks with a leader in communications processors and radio-frequency power products. “This ensures that companies looking to implement industrial-class wireless sensor networks have access to the technology and systems they need to be successful.”
Coupled with Freescale’s MC1319X platform, MeshScape’s solution draws a minimal amount of power, and can be powered by solar energy in some cases. This delivers a complete, low-power, scalable wireless solution. MeshScape will be offered as a network system software license allowing complete integration of the mesh networking software onto sensor nodes at a competitive system price. Millennial Net will offer MeshScape and Freescale’s MC1319x platform as a solution for users’ applications early in 2005’s third quarter (3Q05), and will make them generally available in 4Q05.
In addition, Millennial Net will demonstrate MeshScape at the upcoming Freescale Technology Forum , June 20-23, 2005, in Orlando, FL. This inaugural event will feature keynote speeches, in-depth technical presentations, and technology demonstrations from Freescale and leading hardware, software and tools providers.
