Charlottesville, VA; Lake Forest, CA —Two major companies announced support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 last week. GE Fanuc Automation plans to use the product along with BizTalk Server 2006 as core components in its new Proficy Enterprise Connector. Wonderware , a business unit of Invensys Systems Inc., announced support for SQL Server 2005 data management and analysis software.
Using BizTalk Server and SQL Server as enhanced components to providing Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) gives Proficy integrated suite of products a flexible approach to connecting information from Proficy plant floor applications to a wide variety of higher-level systems. High-availability capabilities of the Windows Server System architecture is said to ensure that customers requiring reliable integration of plant floor with higher-level systems can be achieved with off-the-shelf components and widely used technology.
Enhanced capabilities of SQL Server 2005 reportedly enable Wonderware IndustrialSQL server historian users to reduce planned and unplanned downtime, develop solutions for disaster recovery, and provide greater system availability. A new common language routine (CLR) offers a richer programming environment that permits use of C#, VisualBasic .Net, and other programming languages and tools to create custom applications.
“The ability to monitor and fine-tune plant performance in real time is giving companies the means to improve plant productivity and efficiency, directly benefiting a plant’s bottom line,” said Rashesh Mody, Wonderware’s chief technology officer.
