Texas Instruments launches new DSPs

Texas Instruments (TI) recently introduced a new line of digital signal processing (DSPs) chips for motor and industrial control applications. The company's 'C24x DSPs feature low cost with a performance increase from 20 to 30 MIPS (million instructions per second).The new DSPs reportedly deliver twice as many MIPS per dollar as the competition.

Texas Instruments (TI) recently introduced a new line of digital signal processing (DSPs) chips for motor and industrial control applications. The company’s ‘C24x DSPs feature low cost with a performance increase from 20 to 30 MIPS (million instructions per second).

The new DSPs reportedly deliver twice as many MIPS per dollar as the competition. Bandwidth of a typical 8-bit microcontroller is 90% basic open loop and V/Hz motor control, while ‘C24x DSP offers PID control, sensorless vector algorithms, random PWMs, ripple compensation algorithms, and power factor correction.

A second firm, Technosoft (Ruvigliana, Switzerland) has introduced MotionChip. Used with ‘C24x DSPs, MotionChip provides cost-effective control of dc, brushless dc, and ac servomotors, as well as inductance and stepper motors. It requires no DSP software development.
