Ultra-compact PLC covers ‘nano’ range

Telemecanique Twido (pronounced twee-doe) from Schneider Electric (North Andover, MA) has integrated the two most common formats for nano programmable logic controllers (PLCs) into one platform. Available in modular (book) and compact (brick) formats, Twido PLCs share one range of I/O expansions, option modules, and Microsoft-based programming software for design flexibility.

EMBEDDED CONTROL

Telemecanique Twido (pronounced twee-doe) from Schneider Electric (North Andover, MA) has integrated the two most common formats for nano programmable logic controllers (PLCs) into one platform.

Available in modular (book) and compact (brick) formats, Twido PLCs share one range of I/O expansions, option modules, and Microsoft-based programming software for design flexibility. This family of controllers makes it simple for OEMs and control-panel builders to put more capabilities into a smaller footprint.

Modular Twido packs 40 I/O points into a footprint smaller than a business card (1.89 x 3.54 x 2.78 in.), yet is customizable with a range of expansion modules that allow 256 total analog and discrete I/O points. The all-in-one compact model, with 10 to 24 I/O points, comes with its own 120 V ac power supply, and also can be expanded to up to 88 I/O points.

Twido controllers include advanced functions, such as fast up/down counters, time delays, permanent data backup and an RS-485 Modbus master/slave communication port. Optional plug-in accessories include an operator display, memory cartridges, real-time clock, or communication adapters. Snap-together modules and accessories require no tools for assembly. A range of wiring options-spring-type terminals, removable screw terminal blocks, and pre-wired cabling-also simplify control panel assembly and increase reliability.

The optional operator display is similar to a hand-held programmer. It can be easily plugged and unplugged, so that an operator needs just one to view and configure several devices. An EEPROM module enables memory back up or loading a revised program.
