Ultrasonic flowmeter for custody-transfer applications

Sentinel ultrasonic flowmeter from GE Infrastructure Sensing is intended for natural gas applications where high accuracy is required.

Sentinel high-accuracy, multi-path ultrasonic flowmeter from GE Infrastructure Sensing is geared for fiscal custody-transfer of natural gas. System can be used for natural gas applications, including transmission, distribution, and storage, and for any measurement point where high accuracy is needed.

Available in pipe sizes from 6-24 in., device meets AGA9 criteria and uses a two-diametrical-path, single-traverse meter body design with a 10-in. dia upstream pipe run and a flow conditioning plate. Features include no moving parts, 50:1 turndown, and optional retractable transducers.

Device applies advanced ultrasonic transducer and signal processing technology to fiscal natural gas flow measurement, the company reports. This approach, combined with signal processing optimized for speed and robustness, is said to give a system capability to operate even in air at atmospheric pressure, an important factor for field verification of a meter system during commissioning.
