What Makes Rob an Engineering Leader
Rob is recognized for leadership, technical expertise and a lasting impact on both people and the organization. As an MES solution architect, he consistently goes beyond his role by mentoring engineers, improving infrastructure and developing tools that increase efficiency and strengthen his team.
Rob also played a key role in establishing the Manufacturing Systems Intelligence Group, helping shape its vision and direction. Through collaborative leadership, an innovative mindset and a commitment to developing others, he has made meaningful contributions to the organization’s success.
Leadership & Industry Contributions
Rob demonstrates leadership through his commitment to developing junior engineers, both through formal project mentoring and everyday coaching. In one instance, a new engineer was assigned a hardware wiring task but struggled to understand how it contributed to the broader system.
Rather than simply providing the answer, Rob asked thoughtful questions that encouraged the engineer to think critically about the project’s objectives and explore the broader context. The engineer returned with a stronger understanding of the system and a greater sense of ownership over the work.
This example reflects Rob’s broader leadership approach. He creates opportunities for engineers to take on new challenges, coaches through discussion rather than simply providing answers, and fosters an environment that helps team members build confidence as engineers.
Rob also contributes to the broader engineering community through professional involvement and STEM outreach. He volunteers with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Student Conference, supporting annual programming and K–12 STEM initiatives. As part of this work, Rob organized and led a STEM outreach competition that challenged students to develop educational projects, culminating in a showcase of their work.
Why Rob Chose This Career
Rob’s interest in engineering began early, driven by a natural curiosity for math, science and understanding how things work. As a first-generation college student, he saw engineering as an opportunity to challenge himself and build a meaningful career.
One of Rob’s earliest engineering experiences involved building and steering a LEGO car in class at about age 11. That experience sparked a passion for problem-solving and innovation, ultimately guiding him toward a career focused on designing solutions and improving the systems around him.
