Improved residual current monitors boost reliability
PRODUCT FEATURES
- Ground fault sensors detect leakage currents at low trip levels in grounded AC systems to help prevent damage to equipment and reduce the risk of electrical faults.
- Jumper-selectable setpoints allow adjustment of trip levels to avoid false trips while maintaining protection for machine electronics.

AutomationDirect has added Dold residual current monitors that detect leakage currents in grounded AC and DC systems, provide warning and alarm outputs with adjustable settings and enable maintenance planning and configurable fault responses to help reduce false trips.
The Dold RN5883 series AC/DC monitors operate with external ND5015 residual (differential) current transformers to detect insulation faults, leakage currents and broken conductors. When residual currents exceed user-defined thresholds, the devices issue warning outputs to indicate potential insulation or wiring issues. Each monitor provides selectable trip points (10mA to 3A), a 0–10 VDC analog output proportional to residual current, user-configurable warning and alarm relays with adjustable time delays and manual reset and an LED bar graph display showing current levels.
The ND5015 series AC/DC transformers use Hall effect and current transformer (CT) sensing methods to measure residual currents in grounded systems. All monitored conductors, including neutral, pass through the sensor aperture, which provides a differential signal to the RN5883 monitor for residual current analysis.
