Jake is a rising star at Syscon Automation. Jake has been a controls engineer for nine years. He has led and taken part in many complex high-profile projects that span across a multitude of industries. For the past five years he has been the leading controls engineer for battery handling machines that support the EV industry. While creating these machines, he has developed several programming standards that have contributed to our re-use code library. Jake has progressively driven the company projects to higher and higher quality standards and expectations.
Achievements, Advancement & Career-related Industry Contributions
Jake was on a team of engineers that helped expand the capacity of a local food processing plant. This expansion included adding ten new PLC’s, 20+ new HMIs, and thousands of tags and lines of code. The expansion took over two years and Jake was one of the few engineers that were involved from the beginning to the end. Afterward, Jake moved to machine build department where he resides to this day. Jake has been the lead engineer on multiple new machine builds and follow-ons. He has spearheaded our EV battery handling machines which can process thousands of batteries per hour with help from multiple Fanuc robots, servo systems, and motors. These machines build the battery packs that are in some of the most popular electrical cars and buses today.
Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies
Jakes comes from a background of home builders and enjoys building just about anything. He recently built a beautiful 150 square foot playhouse for his two young daughters Jake was sure to include his daughters in every step along the way.
Interesting Details
- In college, Jake placed in the National skills USA mechatronics competition.
- He also loves to travel. One of his favorite destinations was a six-week backpacking trip to Australia.

“As a control engineer you have many job opportunities across all industries. This gives you the ability to work remotely and do exciting things you enjoy. You also get to experience behind the scenes of several factories and process plants, that you might otherwise not be able to experience. It is very interesting and fast paced work. Each project comes with new opportunities to learn and grow within the industry.”
