Why should this person be recognized for this award?

Janika is an extremely dependable people leader who is strongly oriented towards supporting and mentoring her direct reports. As a working/functional team leader, she leads both by example and with striking empathy. I have learned to have her provide  feedback for my direct reports and trust her interpersonal instincts. She seeks solutions to problems and looks for opportunities to increase efficiencies within our work processes. Finally, her standard personality is refreshing.

Achievements, Advancement & Career-related Industry Contributions

During her 14-year career, Janika has worked for Maverick Technologies, a Rockwell Automation Company, beginning as an entry-level engineer and working her way up to a Proposal & Estimating Team Lead. Janika’s leadership career within Maverick, started from the Senior Engineer role, leading project teams for large chemical and oil & gas clients. During her time as a Senior Engineer, Janika was also an Engineering Talent Lead – focusing on managing groups of engineers to ensure their satisfaction at work, as well as taking care of their day-to-day performance needs. Janika then moved into the Proposal & Estimating group, learning what it takes to deliver proposals to win work for her company. After only a year in that role, Janika was promoted to a Proposal & Estimating Team Lead, which is a working-manager position and where she currently manages half the Proposals & Estimating Group at Maverick. During her time at Maverick, Janika has been formally recognized several times for her engineering work – particularly pertaining to customer satisfaction.

Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies

Janika enjoys the regular practice of high intensity functional training to help maintain strength and coordination after a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. She also serves as the MS Ambassador for KPMG and is an Ambassador for the National MS Society. She enjoys painting oil on canvas and has been doing so since she was 14. She is a fan of literary science fiction, enjoying authors such as Kazuo Ishiguro and Margaret Atwood. Janika is also highly knowledgeable about the Tudor period of British history – self-learning through history books and other sources over the last 5 years.

Interesting Details

  • Janika has lived in and traveled to more than 30 countries in her life. She grew up as a child of Indian diplomats and learned to make new friends while adjusting to different cultures every 3 years or so!
  • As a child, Janika aspired to be a doctor, not an engineer. However, after she was allowed to watch a hysterectomy at the age of 11 and promptly fainted during the surgery, she rapidly switched career choices. (I am personally thankful that she did.)

Why did they choose this career?

Janika reports: “Control systems engineering is a field that gets involved with pretty much every single industry out there. Depending on who you work for, you’d be exposed to a plethora of engineering fields and be constantly learning new things. The amazing people you meet in this field are just an added bonus.”
