Embedded systems hardware for IIoT applications

National Instruments' CompactRIO Controller, Controller for FlexRIO, and the Single-Board RIO Controller are embedded systems hardware based on the LabVIEW reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture.

The CompactRIO Controller is designed for integrators with rugged, industrial applications; Controller for FlexRIO is made for designers with embedded applications; the Single-Board RIO Controller is for designers who need flexibility in their embedded applications. The controllers are supported by LabVIEW software, the LabVIEW FPGA Module and NI Linux Real-Time, now based on Security-Enhanced Linux, which enables advanced security features for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications.

Courtesy: National InstrumentsThe CompactRIO Controller features include an Intel Atom processor and Kintex-7 FPGA. It has a quad-core 1.91 GHz processor and a Linux-based real-time 64-bit operating system (OS). It can also incorporate a local human-machine interface (HMI) and use the control system to customize and handle HMI tasks. It also has SD storage for managing data.

The Controller for FlexRIO features the Kintex-7 FPGA, which implements control algorithms and advanced signal processing with support for over 30 I/O adapter modules. It also has a dual-core ARM processor and can be with the NI Linux Real-Time OS in stand-alone operation.

It also has a dual-core, 667 MHz ARM processor, Artix-7 FPGA, and a robust real-time OS. It has a board-level form factor designed to embed intelligence into smart industrial systems.
