Champaign, Ill.— A new and faster Mathematica, version 4, increases its functionality from a prototyping tool to a final simulations environment. Packed Array technology combines symbolic algebra with fast and efficient numeric calculation, allowing users to address larger calculations than before. Users now can fit numerical arrays with two-and-a-half to five times as many data points into the same amount of memory, and many large-scale calculations are as much as 10 times faster. Added to the package are new import and export capabilities for reading numerical data, resolution-dependent or resolution-independent graphics, and sound in many standard formats.
