Portland, ME – Kepware Technologies was selected as the primary provider to extend device communications options for Wonderware ’s System Platform 3.0 product beyond Wonderware’s line of device communications servers.
Listen in exclusive: In advance of the announcement, Roy Kok, Kepware vice president of sales and marketing, tells Control Engineering about the benefits of the Kepware-Wonderware agreement . (Approx. 2:20 min.)
As a result of the partnership announcement, the Wonderware System Platform will be able to connect to thousands of additional devices through more than 130 protocols that Kepware KepServerEx supports. As a result, Kepware is announcing July 16 that it will create a private branded version of KepServerEx to be sold and supported as a “Kepware for Wonderware” product.
Separately, Wonderware also selected Kepware as an Endorsed Partner in the Wonderware Innovation Partner ecosystem. This designation highlights Kepware as a preferred solution and enables technical and marketing collaboration between the companies.
The Kepware products for Wonderware will be sold and supported through Wonderware channels. In addition, Wonderware will leverage technical support from Software Toolbox, a long time Wonderware and Kepware partner, to deliver the highest quality and value of support to Wonderware customers, Kepware explains.
“Wonderware is a world leader in automation and information software and we are extremely honored to have been chosen for such a critical relationship,” says Kok. “Kepware products have long been used by both Wonderware channels and customers. Kepware will be working closely with Wonderware to develop a seamless integration to maximize ease of use and deployment of the combined solution.”
Tim Sowell, vice president at Wonderware , says, “We spent a great deal of time evaluating Kepware and its products. “There is no other company that we found that had the depth, breadth and reputation of Kepware in the automation communications space. Our relationship with Kepware, combined with the Wonderware software platform and support offerings, should deliver the best possible automation communications and user experience for our customers.”
ARC Advisory Group ’s Craig Resnick, senior analyst, praised the agreement, saying, “Wonderware and Kepware both stand out as leaders in the industry and this relationship enables them to focus more of their energies delivering value to their customers in what they do best. Device communications has been one of the most persistent problems in manufacturing automation and this is clearly better for their customers because it can enable less diversity and more support options. This sort of focus is especially important for helping customers evolve to OPC-UA , as well as keep up with other technologies.”
Wonderware’s System Platform, built on the industry standards-based Invensys ArchestrA software architecture, gives customers one common strategic platform for all networked HMI, SCADA, MES, and EMI (human-machine interface, supervisory control and data acquisition, manufacturing execution software, enterprise manufacturing intelligence) and business connectivity software.
Kepware describes itself as the world leader in communication software for automation and offers a unique experience in both OPC and embedded device communications.
