Machine builders and plant operators need to improve productivity, energy efficiency, cybersecurity and flexibility while reducing engineering and commissioning effort. Siemens is launching the new Siemens Sinamics G drives as a single portfolio for continuous-motion applications, covering a range of power and application requirements with a common approach to engineering and operation.
The new generation focuses on three principles: Security by design, integrated safety functions and digitalization to improve transparency and maintenance management.
Siemens’ scalable drive platform helps machine builders standardize automation solutions and support future requirements. Cybersecurity was included from the start. All new generation drives will be designed to support EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) requirements and include cybersecurity capabilities up to Security Level Capability 2 (SL-C 2) as defined in IEC 62443-4-2.
Integrated safety functions up to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) provide functional safety for people, machines and plants. The new generation also combines digital integration and usability. Integration with TIA Portal, an integrated web server and a common engineering and operating concept support selection, engineering, commissioning, diagnostics and service. This can reduce engineering time, training effort and variation across machine platforms. Through the Ethernet-based OPC UA communication standard, drive and operational data can be used for asset and energy management, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.
With the new Sinamics G200, G210C, G210 and G210X, Siemens rounds out the next generation of its Sinamics G portfolio around the Sinamics G220, introduced in 2023. The Sinamics G200 is for general-purpose industrial applications, while the Sinamics G210C is designed for compact machines with high power density and overload capability requirements. The Sinamics G210 is a general-purpose drive for moving, positioning and processing applications. The Sinamics G210X adds functions for pump, fan, compressor and other infrastructure applications. Together, these drives make up a scalable portfolio for continuous-motion applications based on a common technology platform.
