ABB’s Control Room Solutions (CRS) business in Sweden has introduced ABB Unification X, a control room integration solution designed to connect multiple operational systems within a common workspace.
The system is intended for industrial control rooms where operators manage multiple systems and workflows. ABB describes Unification X as a technical package made up of products designed to work together, supported by a design study process that can be used to configure both the physical workspace and digital setup according to operator requirements. In one test comparing a traditional setup with a Unification X configuration, the operator footprint was reduced by up to 35%.
Unification X provides centralized access to multiple systems and allows operators to switch between control setups quickly. The solution is intended for industries including oil and gas, energy, utilities, manufacturing, blue light, infrastructure and process industries, and is designed for use by operators and engineers working in complex control environments.
Unification X will be available on ABB’s Extended Operator Workplace (EOW) and other CRS products. Features include:
- Access to multiple systems through a common workstation setup
- Support for coordination across control room operations
- A dedicated network architecture for secure operation
- Support for dual workstations and multi-desk configurations
The system is based on consolidating control room functions around a defined set of monitors, keyboards and mice. It also allows operators to change workstations when required by control room conditions, including night shifts and abnormal operating situations.
