Siemens has announced new 3D electrical design capabilities in Siemens Capital software that combine wiring design and physical harness routing in a model-based workflow across Siemens Xcelerator software. The new capabilities allow electrical and mechanical engineers to work concurrently in a common 3D environment, helping teams coordinate and reduce late-stage design changes.

As electrical systems and software increase in complexity, disconnected ECAD and MCAD workflows can cause delays, errors and rework. Siemens has integrated Capital with Siemens Designcenter software and Siemens Teamcenter software so engineers can work on electrical system design, validation and management within the mechanical design environment.

The new 3D electrical design capabilities allow earlier validation of electrical systems, improve continuity of design data across development workflows and reduce manual transfers between multidisciplinary engineering teams. Engineers can view electrical content in 3D, identify issues earlier and better align design intent with physical implementation.

According to Siemens, the capabilities can help shorten development cycles, improve coordination between ECAD and MCAD teams, reduce late design changes and rework and support more efficient workflows using existing electrical and mechanical design tools with AI-based features.
