Beckhoff has introduced Beckhoff ED series EtherCAT Terminals, adding a new housing format and additional functions to its EtherCAT I/O lineup. The terminals remain compatible with existing Beckhoff hardware and maintain the same core functions and built-in diagnostics as other EtherCAT terminals. The ED series is designed for modular, scalable I/O applications in industrial automation systems.
The DIN-rail mounted ED series EtherCAT Terminals feature an updated housing design, push-in wiring for tool-less installation and diagnostics accessible via an app using a scannable data matrix code on the product. These updates are intended to streamline wiring and diagnostic access for distributed I/O system and support future distributed I/O requirements.
This is supported by the ED terminals’ multiple hardware integration options, which are intended to support future expansion while maintaining compatibility with existing installation. Push-in wiring can reduce commissioning and maintenance time in machine and equipment installations and diagnostic features can shorten troubleshooting and reduce downtime.
The ED terminals also support device identification and tracking for quality assurance and spare parts management. These IP20-rated EtherCAT Terminals can reduce wiring and service effort while maintaining existing I/O functionality and performance levels.
