What Makes Chris an Engineering Leader
Chris bootstrapped Sensory Robotics, pioneering a technology called 3D point cloud safety for robotics and automation. This innovation represents a new dimension in safety, replacing most standard safety devices with a system that is easy to set up and repurpose.
He built the company alongside some of the most capable professionals in the industry, persuading them to join the startup journey. In just the past year, Sensory Robotics has grown from being relatively unknown to becoming one of the most talked-about solutions in automation safety.
Achievements, Advancements & Career-related Industry Contributions
Chris invented and patented a system for human-robot interaction in virtual reality that enables richer remote interactions, communication, and experiences.
In 2019, he founded Sensory Robotics, self-funded it to revenue, and built a five-person expert team. The company shipped its MVP in 2023 and deployed more than 10 pilot systems between 2024 and 2025.
Under his leadership, the team has focused on developing a 3D point cloud safety system that is redefining automation safety. The system integrates depth cameras—including Intel RealSense, Azure Kinect, and Sick SafeVisionary2—with PLCs and robot controllers such as ABB, FANUC, KUKA, and Universal Robots, proving platform-agnostic viability.
In addition, Chris authored and open-sourced an AI-based body tracking system for gaming that fuses multiple 3D cameras to deliver highly immersive VR experiences.
Non-work-related Activities & Hobbies
Chris contributes to landmine removal projects, both financially and by sharing technical knowledge for robotic removal methods. This commitment reflects his belief that automation and machines should serve humanity and protect people.
Interesting Details
Chris is an active member of Cincinnati’s improv comedy community and encourages others to try improv as a way to strengthen communication and dynamic thinking skills.
He also leads his extended family’s Heritage Stewardship Committee, which is restoring and preserving historic family properties and cemeteries in Indiana and Kentucky, some dating back to before the Civil War.
Why Chris Chose This Career
Chris considers himself fortunate to have combined his interests in finance, computers, IT, and software technology in a way that helps people. Building Sensory Robotics has been both challenging and rewarding, and the knowledge that the company’s innovations are sought after by leading robotics firms keeps him motivated.
He takes pride in having helped create what he describes as a “new dimension in safety,” improving automation safety on a global scale.
