Nominations are open to submit applications for the Jeffrey A. Johnson Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Building Energy Codes and Performance. The award recognizes a leader or a team in the United States (including U.S. Territories) for sustained service in pursuit of energy efficiency goals.
Criteria for this award and the nomination process is determined by a committee comprised by the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE), Building Energy Codes Program, The New Buildings Institute, the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships and representatives from the building codes industry.
The deadline to submit nominations is July 9. All nominees will be announced and the award presented at Energy Codes 2007 in Pittsburgh, the week of July 23.
The award honors the memory of Jeff Johnson, who died May 15, 2005, while mountain biking near his home in the Columbia River Gorge. Throughout his career, Johnson made significant impact in the California Energy Commission’s building energy efficiency standards—Title 24, and DOE’s Building Energy Codes Program at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Johnson led efforts to write a new commercial energy code that became the basis for the International Energy Conservation Code.
